Company Profile

The idea was born 6 years ago when Mike du Toit went to Namibia with his family on one of their many outdoor excursions.  Sitting at the campfire one evening, he came to the conclusion that there has to be people out there that enjoy the type of holidays that he and his family does.  After he retired from a 21 year career in the aviation industry, the idea was chafed and polished.  The product – Mookodi Wildlife Safaris.

Both Mike and his wife, Elaine, completed 4x4-training courses and decided to start the new business.  Mookodi is situated in Amersfoort, Mpumalanga.  The property has many facilities including a golf course, airstrip and accommodation next to a small game farm.   Set on the Highveld of South Africa, Mookodi’s base camp promotes an atmosphere of leisure and relaxation.

Mookodi bought a rebuilt SAMIL 50 and converted it into a bus with a luxurious cabin, seating 6 passengers and thus providing ample legroom for comfortable travelling.  The high quality leather seats are equipped with air suspension systems to provide a smooth ride.  Another convenience is an onboard WC with basin as well as a self-service bar with fridge/freezer – stocked according to the client’s specifications.  As for entertainment, Mookodi installed a flat screen TV set with DVD player and CD player for Audio entertainment.  Other additions to the leather-upholstered interior are a powerful air conditioner, personal locker for valuables and relevant reading material.

One of the many assets of our company is flexibility.  Guests can personalise their holiday by requesting the route as well as their choice of menus from our bouquet.  Mookodi provides 2 sit-down meals and snacks onboard – all prepared with care and style by our capable staff.  The team consists of four staff members on every tour, making sure that the six passengers are satisfied at all times.

Mookodi travels mainly through Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and parts of South Africa.  Standard routes have all been explored by Mike and his family before they started the business.  These routes are not fixed and we will gladly provide the client with a quote or design a tour as per specifications.  Mookodi arranges the necessary permits, the client need only to bring a valid ID and Passport.  To read more about our standard tours, clients can visit our website where we provide a detailed description of events and itineraries.  Duration of our tours varies from 5-21 days depending on the destinations.  All tours start and end at JHB International Airport except when other arrangements were made between the client and us.  Transport to and from the airport is thus included in the package.

Mookodi is self-efficient and carries all equipment and stock onboard; this makes it possible to literally stop and set up camp anywhere!  Our unit includes a hot water shower, fully equipped kitchen, freezer, 3 rooftop tents with linen, dining table and chairs, silent generator and much more.   A light 4x4 vehicle accompanies the Samil for game drives and serves as a back-up vehicle – equipped with a stretcher and first-aid kit - in the case of a medical evacuation.  Both vehicles are equipped with 2-way radio communication and a navigation system.

Mookodi Wildlife Safaris offers a five star experience while the client travels through desolate and barren land.  Mookodi defines luxury and gives a new perspective on camping, hence linking nature with comfort, style and excellent service.
